Philosophy

Deerfield Community Nursery School’s top priority is to provide a sound, appropriate curriculum for children between the ages of 18 months and 4 years old.  The school is dedicated to planning and carrying out a program which will stimulate the physical and mental development of each child in an atmosphere which promotes social and emotional growth.

DCNS is a developmental nursery school which encourages learning through play.  Play has purpose and meaning to children, and thus a major avenue for development and learning.  Teachers strive to make learning fun by using play situations to help children relate to concepts and ideas.  For instance, blocks are used to introduce such math concepts as “more than”, “higher than”, and “smaller than” – all terms which have clear and concrete meaning for children.  Learning such concepts becomes an opportunity for fun, rather than a solemn experience.  In this manner, teachers create a classroom atmosphere that buzzes and bubbles with delight.
