Our Staff

Deerfield Community Nursery School (DCNS) is proud of our staff.

Director
Mindi Schryer has a Masters Degree in Education and has worked in the early childhood field more than 25 years. She was the director of a NAEYC-accredited program for infants through 5-year-olds for 18 years before coming to DCNS in 2003. She is a member of NAEYC, teaches early childhood education classes at Oakton Community College, an advisory-board member of Oakton Community College's early childhood education department, a member of the Director's Network and has presented at conferences in early childhood education. She also teaches the Time with Tots program.

Teachers
Our teachers have a combined total of more than 100 years of early childhood teaching experience. All of our head teachers have 2 or 4 year college degrees in either the education field or early childhood education, and one has a nursing degree. We are particularly proud of our low teacher-turnover rate and our low child-to-staff ratio. All of our head teachers have been at DCNS more than 17 years, and two are parents of former students.

Our teachers are always eager to share a child's progress with parents. Time is regularly set aside for conferences and discussions with teachers and the director in both formal and informal meetings with parents. Parents are invited and encouraged to visit the school at any time.

Music Specialist
Lynn Miller is a talented music educator and has taught at DCNS since 1984. Mrs. Miller has a four-year degree in Music Education. Once a week, the Time with Tots, All-by-Myself, 3- and 4-year-old classes enjoy music class. DCNS's music program is the renowned Music Together® program which specializes in teaching rhythms, patterns and beat — important foundations for math and language.
